Nestled in the snowy and picturesque Montafon valley, Falkensteiner Hotel Montafon is an architectural delight. A sleek and modern building with huge glass windows that let in enormous swathes of light and offer breathtaking views of the mountains. This is a family active hotel brimming with enough activities to keep the kids entertained all day, every day. And with the beautiful Golm ski area on your doorstep, it’s every snow loving family’s little slice of heaven.
Every last detail in this cool but cosy hotel has been designed with families in mind, with large open spaces and a roomy restaurant, it’s a place where parents can relax and kids are free to have fun. To this end, the hotel can be slightly loud as children are so welcome, but there’s always the spa to slope off to when parents need some well deserved Me Time.
The main pool area is warm and inviting with incredible views of the surrounding mountains, and with just a swoosh of some mini glass doors you can swim straight into the adjoining outdoor pool, feeling the fresh mountain air on your face while you relax in the warm water. It was so lovely swimming outside surrounded by the mountains and was a real highlight of the trip for us all. The indoor pool also comes complete with child friendly waterslides, a baby pool for splashing with the smaller ones, and a family spa so everyone can get in on the action.
The rooms are all clean and modern, and again with those gorgeous views of the snowy peaks. Most rooms have a separate sleeping area for children which can accommodate up to three, and the best part is, the kids are already included in the room rate! It’s brilliantly done to keep the costs down for families.
And to really make the most of the gorgeous scenery, book a Valley View room, you won’t regret it.
The huge restaurant can seat over 400, and with incredible views across the valley it’s a perfect place to fuel those tired limbs after a day on the slopes. The restaurant itself is a buffet, but with five cooking stations offering different cuisine it felt more upmarket than others and had great variety for picky eaters.
A real highlight of the day is Jause, which is an afternoon snack of bread, meats and cheeses as well as lovely little fruits and vegetables such as cornichons and tomatoes. These were devoured by everyone and it was quite a spectacle as there was so much on offer. And I mustn’t forget the pork and crackling which was a huge hit in our group, for kids and adults alike!
They have ensured the dining options are all entirely family friendly, with kids able to use all areas of the buffet including the immensely popular sweetie station. With large tables to fit the family and accessible highchairs and child-friendly plates, bowls and cups, they have everything to make dinner time as easy as possible for parents. They even provide baby and toddler equipment in the nap room, with a connecting baby kitchen to make any prep effortless.
Falkensteiner Hotel Montafon is perfect for all families with children up to around 12 years old. The kids club will keep even the most active of little ones entertained while the parents can ski, spa or sip a cocktail. And when it’s fun time for all the family, everyone can get involved.
And believe me, the kids facilities here are out of this world! With a sports hall for basketball, football and every sport imaginable, a movie theatre with comfy beanbags that doubles as a mini disco, table football, science lab, swimming pools, gaming stations, kids cooking classes, you name it, they have it. There’s even a kids climbing wall conveniently located near the bar so you can watch your little monkeys scale the side while you sit back with a G&T. And let’s not forget the DJ booth and chill out area where teens can hang out with their friends.
Kids club starts from 3 years old going right through to the teens, and from 6 months to 3 years there is a baby room and cosy crawling corner to keep them entertained.
The Golm ski area itself has 44km of piste and even one of the steepest runs in the country, but is a traditional resort designed for families to enjoy the slopes together, with plenty of blues and reds to keep everyone entertained for 3 days or more. And as Austria’s first carbon neutral resort, you can ski with peace of mind, knowing that one in every three guests is actually transported up the mountain using solar power.
With hearty Austrian cuisine being served in a few delightful restaurants on the mountain, everyone was well fed and fuelled for the rest of the day skiing. I couldn’t resist the Speckrosti which is a traditional dish of bacon, potato and onion hash that was incredible! The mountain meals won’t hurt your wallet either, as the prices are very reasonable in comparison to French and Swiss resorts.
Falkensteiner Hotel Montafon itself can be quite isolated as it’s built to accommodate your every need, but you can travel to other nearby mountains with an area ski pass if you wish to explore a bit farther afield. There’s also a very small traditional village 10-15 mins down the valley with a few amenities. But with the gondola up to Golm only 5 minutes from your front door, and so much entertainment at the hotel, I have a feeling you won’t need these extra trips
The Montafon really is a sleek and well thought out family hotel with great facilities. It’s fun for the whole family and perfect for a few days in the snow whether you ski or not!
