Just back from...

Mandarin Oriental Bodrum

Perched on the northern coast of the Bodrum Peninsula in Cennet Koyu (aptly named Paradise Bay), Mandarin Oriental Bodrum has been setting the bar for refined luxury on Turkey’s Aegean coast since it first opened in 2014. Spread across 60 hectares of olive groves and pine-covered hillsides, the resort is known for its panoramic sea views, private beaches, and calm, contemporary aesthetic — a true escape for those who like their luxury relaxed but dialled up.

We recently sent our luxury travel expert Carla to experience it firsthand. It was her first time in Turkey, and with a stylish stopover in Istanbul followed by barefoot glamour on the Bodrum coast, it’s safe to say she’s already planning a return.

Here’s everything she loved — from spacious sea-view suites and lazy beach days to gullet boat adventures and that all-important morning coffee ritual.

First

impressions

This was my very first trip to Turkey, and let me tell you — it won’t be my last. From the moment I arrived at Mandarin Oriental Bodrum, I felt like I’d stepped into a dream. The views as you enter the resort are almost cinematic — endless blues, gentle hills, and that signature Aegean glow. Check-in is done with a cocktail in hand and the kind of warm, polished service that instantly sets the tone.

Before Bodrum, I took the opportunity to stop over in Istanbul for a couple of nights and stayed at the Mandarin Oriental Bosphorus. It was a perfect pairing: buzzing city energy followed by peaceful, coastal calm. For anyone flying via Istanbul, I’d definitely recommend this as a twin-centre trip — and don’t miss the Bosphorus bar’s signature ‘Sublime’ cocktail!

The

stay

At Bodrum, I stayed in a One Bedroom Sea View Apartment — ideal if you like a bit of extra space (I’m talking kitchenette, dining area, and a proper living room). For families, the two- and three-bedroom apartments are a brilliant option, while the private villas with pools were clearly a favourite among those looking for a little more seclusion.

The resort itself is beautifully spread out — think three main pools (all relatively quiet, thanks to the abundance of private plunge pools), a gently sloping beach with private cabanas, and a brilliant buggy service to help you get around the hilly landscape.

My top tip? Book a table at Hakkasan. Perched over the water with panoramic sunset views, it’s an absolute standout. Breakfast is also a big highlight, especially for a coffee lover like me — the dedicated coffee bar is a game-changer! There’s a generous buffet, healthy options, indulgent treats, and an à la carte menu too. Don’t leave without trying the Turkish eggs.

Experiences &

exploring

The hotel is around 40 minutes from Bodrum airport and just 15 minutes by water taxi into the city — and that short journey across the bay is an experience in itself. While the resort could easily keep you blissfully occupied for days, I’d definitely recommend getting out on the water. I joined a traditional gullet tour arranged by the hotel, and it was honestly the highlight of my trip — sailing past rugged cliffs and pine-covered coves, stopping to snorkel in impossibly clear waters, and soaking up the views with a chilled drink in hand. Utter bliss.

Back on shore, there are plenty of water sports right from the hotel’s beach — paddleboarding, jet-skiing, wakeboarding — and for the seriously adventurous, you can even take off from the bay in a private seaplane for a completely different perspective of the coastline.

I didn’t have time to dive into Bodrum’s historic side on this trip, but I’m already plotting a return. The old town is high on my list — wandering through the whitewashed alleyways, shopping for handmade ceramics and local textiles, visiting the Castle of St. Peter, and catching the golden hour at the ancient amphitheatre. There’s so much more to discover beyond the resort — and next time, I’ll be making time for both.

Reflecting on

Bodrum

Mandarin Oriental Bodrum ticks a lot of boxes — it’s family-friendly (with a great kids’ club from age 3+), perfect for couples wanting peace and privacy, and spacious enough for multigenerational groups. Whether you’re escaping for a long weekend or settling in for a week, there’s so much on offer you really don’t need to leave the resort unless you want to. Morning yoga, high-end boutiques, beach clubs, and world-class dining — it’s all here.

This is one of those hotels that does it all without ever feeling overdone. It’s stylish, serene, and seriously special.
