Just back from...

Hillside Beach Club, Fethiye

Set in its own private bay, hugged by fragrant pine forests and the turquoise waters of the Aegean, Hillside Beach Club is a resort with a loyal following — a place people return to year after year for good reason. Less than an hour from Dalaman and its international airport, and just outside the coastal town of Fethiye, this easy-going Turkish resort blends the feel-good spirit of a beach retreat with a refreshingly unpretentious approach to luxury.

Earlier this May, our associate Francesca Stevenson was invited by JG Collection to experience Hillside Beach Club for herself – staying in one of the resort’s unique Superior Family Rooms and immersing herself in everything from sunrise yoga and sailing to sundowners on the beach. Below, she shares her first-hand impressions.

A resort with a rhythm of its

own

Arriving at night, Hillside felt like something gently glowing in the forest — scattered lights among the trees, the faint sound of the sea, and a surprising stillness. The entrance is simple by design, but once you’re inside, the setting unfolds and the scale becomes clear. Built into a steep hillside, the resort is spread across levels — rooms are tucked in among the greenery and look out over a private bay. My Superior Family Room came with a large terrace and some quirks — namely, the bathroom and children’s room both being accessed externally via the terrace. Definitely something to be aware of, particularly with younger kids, but part of the offbeat charm that Hillside leans into.

It’s not a resort that overwhelms you on arrival. It settles into you, or maybe you settle into it. By day two, you’re in step with the gentle rhythm: swim, read, eat, move, repeat. It’s all very natural. The resorts famous ‘Silent Beach’ offers a proper digital detox (no phones allowed), while Serenity Beach — adults-only and shaded by pines — became my go-to for peaceful lunches.  Pasha on the Bay, the resort’s evening à la carte restaurant, is a scene in itself — all white linens and warm lighting, with a meze-style menu of fresh fish, salads, Turkish breads and dips. The Main Restaurant deserves a mention too — a buffet with real flair and quality, and wine, beer and softs included.

Wellness, movement and a

sense of play

Being there during Feel Good Week added an extra layer to the trip. There’s a schedule of optional wellness and fitness sessions, but nothing is pushy or overly structured. One morning I joined yoga on the beach, focused more on the mind than the body, and another day I found myself doing a HIIT class with Bradley Simmonds on a raised platform looking out to sea. It’s the sort of thing that feels far more appealing than it sounds when you’re surrounded by pine trees and fresh air.

There are also Padel and tennis courts, sailing trips, and hiking trails nearby (though time didn’t allow for an off-resort adventure this time). A group game of padel turned out to be unexpectedly fun — fast-paced and sociable, just like the rest of the resort. One afternoon we boarded a traditional Turkish sailing boat and cruised the bay, dropping anchor for a swim. The water was chilly (early season), but so worth it.

Evenings have a buzz without being overdone. Live music, low-key beach parties, guests catching up over cocktails by the water. It’s sociable, yes, but in a very authentic way — that’s the key to Hillside’s atmosphere. The balance between energy and ease is what makes it feel like a place you’d return to time and time again.

If I’d had more time, I’d definitely have headed out to explore Fethiye and the beautiful spots nearby. It’s just a quick 10-minute taxi or shuttle ride away—a charming harbour town with a laid-back vibe, local markets, and waterfront cafés. Breaksfast’s in Turkey are not for the faint hearted, and I always recommend testing out a traditional Turkish fare somewhere local.

A day trip to Saklikent Gorge is well worth a visit too. It’s a stunning natural canyon where you can hike and cool off in the icy waters—the perfect way to balance out all the relaxing. The ancient Lycian rock tombs of Telmessos are also on my list—there’s something about wandering through history that always adds a bit of magic to a trip. And, of course, I’d be tempted by island hopping along the coast—whether on a traditional gulet or a private boat, cruising those turquoise bays and hidden beaches looks like an unbeatable way to spend a day.

My final

thoughts

Hillside Beach Club isn’t flashy, and that’s its strength. It’s quietly confident, and that confidence comes through in the details — the service, the setting, the way people relax here almost instantly. There’s no pressure to be anywhere or do anything, but if you want to fill your day with movement, nature and food, you absolutely can.

The resort attracts all sorts: families, couples, solo travellers, adventurous types, wellness lovers, and those just looking to switch off. It’s hard to pin down a single guest type, which is often the sign of a resort doing something right.

The setting is beautiful, the energy is warm, and the pace is yours to set. For me, the best time was late afternoon on the beach — the sun still high, cocktails appearing, and that shared feeling that no one really wants to leave just yet. Hillside might not shout, but it stays with you.
