When it comes to Caribbean escapes, few pairings are as effortlessly glamorous as Antigua and St. Barths. Our founder, Mark, had the privilege of experiencing these two islands in the most spectacular way—on a FAM trip with the Oetker Collection, staying at the iconic Jumby Bay Island and Eden Rock-St Barths. A week of indulgence, adventure, and breathtaking scenery, this is island-hopping at its absolute finest…
It was mid-November, and I was finally heading to Gatwick to experience two legendary hotels that I’ve had on my bucket-list for what feels like my entire career in travel. November is often considered the tail end of the ‘wet season’ in the Caribbean, so it doesn’t always get the best rep. But let me tell you, we were blessed with beautiful weather time and time again—sun-drenched days and starlit nights that proved this month is not one to sleep on. As I headed toward the vibrant waters of the West Indies (just a 9-hour flight from London), the charm of Antigua, with its 365 stunning beaches (yes, one for each day of the year), was impossible to ignore. This island is steeped in rich history, with colonial architecture and the warm, welcoming spirit of its people.
Just a short flight away lies St. Barths, a chic French paradise that exudes sophistication. If you’ve ever touched down on this French-Caribbean gem, you’ll know the thrill of landing at the small Gustav III airport. For those who haven’t experienced it yet, brace yourself for a dramatic descent as the plane sweeps over lush hills and lands on a runway that kisses the sea. This island is a magnet for A-listers, especially during the festive season when it transforms into a glamorous playground, worthy of a Hollywood red carpet.
But don’t let the glitz fool you—St. Barths has a rugged charm that adds to its allure. Picture vibrant beach bars where you can kick back with a rum punch, hidden coves waiting to be discovered, and laid-back beach clubs where the vibe is as much about relaxation as it is about style.
Just a quick hop from the mainland, Jumby Bay Island isn’t your typical ‘fly and flop’ resort; it’s an entire private island paradise, and the magic began the moment I touched down in Antigua. After a brief drive from the airport, I was whisked away on a sleek catamaran to a world where relaxation reigns supreme—no cars, just endless stretches of pristine beaches and an all-inclusive experience that feels tailor-made for you. Settling into my Pool Suite (very few of the room types come without a private pool), morning coffee on the terrace quickly became a cherished ritual. Days at Jumby Bay Island offered a blissful mix of leisure and adventure—though the art of doing ‘nothing’ was taken very seriously.
I was treated to sunset cruises with fresh canapés and champagne, indulged in rejuvenating yoga by the ocean, and experienced some of the best spa treatments I’ve ever had. One of my standouts was the White Night Beach BBQ on our final night. We feasted under a canopy of stars, danced on the sand, and it turned into a beautiful way to bond with everyone I travelled with.
For those eager to explore, the resort is equal parts groomed and rugged, with gorgeous nature to ogle over at every turn and endless car-free roads to jog along. But beyond Jumby Bay Island, you’ll have to head back to the main island (via complimentary Catamaran), but there’s nothing the attentive staff won’t organise for you. On a previous trip to Antigua I enjoyed the vibrant local markets and the iconic Shirley Heights Sunday party—and you will not regret attending!
In all honesty though, Jumby Bay Island is not somewhere you’ll be itching to leave. Couples and families—especially those travelling with multiple generations—will discover a wealth of activities (or a blissful lack thereof, if that’s more your vibe). It truly is your own slice of heaven.
If Jumby Bay Island is all about seclusion, then Eden Rock–St. Barths radiates energy and style. Nestled on the shores of this French Caribbean ‘party island’, the iconic hotel embodies the vibrant spirit of the island—where designer boutiques grace the streets, yachts sail through the turquoise waters, and the dining scene is nothing short of spectacular. I checked into the legendary Villa Rockstar, a six-bedroom masterpiece that has hosted everyone from Hollywood A-listers to world-renowned musicians—and now the Swords Travel team! Complete with a round-the-clock chef and 20-metre pool that could rival any in St. Barths, it’s the kind of place that anyones jaw would drop in. (Fun fact: Leonardo DiCaprio spent a New Year’s here!) You’ll see from the interiors (pictured), that Eden Rock–St. Barths is one of the coolest hotels in the Caribbean.
Days here are best spent beachside, indulging in some of the finest sushi at Sand Bar, sinking your teeth into the must-try Eden Rock burger, or cooling down with a frosé (available via a chic little truck). Or, if like me, you spontaneously decide to test out the world-class Eden Fitness Centre—you won’t be disappointed. It’s worth popping in just for the views. But the real magic of St. Barths unfolds when you venture beyond the resort—rent a car and cruise along scenic coastal roads, unearthing hidden beaches and world-class restaurants. One of my top picks? Dinner at Le Café, a lively spot where live musicians set the perfect tone for an unforgettable evening.
Eden Rock–St. Barths is also surprisingly family-friendly, welcoming children with open arms and offering classes in everything from Caribbean dancing to sandcastle building, making it a hit for guests of all ages. And, just like Jumby Bay Island, Eden Rock–St. Barths boasts an exceptional collection of villas scattered across the island—ideal for those seeking the best of St. Barths while enjoying the privacy of their own space.
As my bucket-list trip came to a close, it was clear that both Jumby Bay Island and Eden Rock–St. Barths are more than just beautiful hotels; they represent the epitome of luxury and thoughtful hospitality under the expert guidance of our friends at Oetker Collection. Known for their impeccable attention to detail and commitment to preserving the unique character of each property, Oetker Collection ensures that every guest enjoys an extraordinary experience. Their dedication to creating exceptional destinations is evident in every aspect of these resorts, from the exquisite design to the personalised service that makes you feel truly special.
The mix of Jumby Bay Island’s peaceful vibes and Eden Rock–St. Barths’ lively energy makes for an awesome twin-centre trip. You get the chill luxury of Jumby Bay Island, surrounded by nothing but stunning beaches, private pools, and quiet luxury, then dive right into the fun and flair of St. Barths via the most scenic plane ride ever. It’s the best of both worlds—perfect for anyone looking to unwind and explore all at once! Here at Swords Travel, we thrive on creating exciting twin-centre trips, and this Caribbean adventure absolutely tops the list. Let us help you craft your own unforgettable escape to these idyllic destinations—whether you’re seeking tranquility, adventure, or a bit of both.
