It’s official: Thailand is having another moment. As The White Lotus returns this week for its third season (we’re HUGE fans at Swords…), all eyes are on the Southeast Asian gem—and for good reason. HBO’s hit series, known for its razor-sharp satire and sumptuous filming locations, has previously transformed luxury resorts in Hawaii and Sicily into household names.
Now, with Thailand in the spotlight, it’s set to do the same for this land of gilded temples, emerald waters, and five-star indulgence. But beyond the on-screen drama, Thailand has always been a playground for the discerning traveller—where luxury isn’t just about private infinity pools and candlelit dinners (though they certainly deliver), but about a deep-rooted culture of hospitality.
We saw this firsthand when we visited in November. From whizzing through Bangkok in brightly painted tuk-tuks to cocktails at the ultra-exclusive Samujana Villas in Koh Samui, Thailand swept us up in its effortless blend of energy, elegance, and the kind of care that feels instinctive rather than expected. Street food at vibrant night markets were as memorable as the multi-course tasting menus at beachfront fine-dining spots. And whether it was a private long-tail boat trip or a sunrise yoga session overlooking the jungle, there was a constant sense of magic in the air.
It’s this intoxicating blend of tradition, warmth, and indulgence that makes Thailand the perfect backdrop for The White Lotus‘ next chapter. While HBO is keeping details under wraps, it’s been confirmed that filming took place at Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui and Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas—two icons of Thai luxury that, quite frankly, don’t need Hollywood to prove their worth.
Nestled in a former coconut plantation, Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui embodies that castaway fantasy—but with every conceivable luxury at your fingertips. Villas come with infinity pools and sweeping Gulf of Thailand views, while the spa leans into the island’s heritage with coconut oil treatments that melt away any trace of the real world. Cocktails at CoCoRum hit differently when paired with a sunset over Laem Yai Bay, and the staff seem to anticipate what you need before you do. The kind of place where ‘checking out’ feels purely theoretical—though we can’t help but wonder which White Lotus character might be plotting their next move from one of these private decks.
We’re not lucky enough to know exactly which scenes were filmed where, but Anantara Mai Khao Villas has also been noted as featuring in The White Lotus (It was also the backdrop for Netflix’s ‘Mother of the Bride’). If you’re looking for a change of pace from Koh Samui’s rugged vibe, this Phuket favourite is the perfect place. The resort’s private pool villas, nestled in lush gardens, offer a secluded sanctuary, serene and effortlessly chic. You’ll love a lantern-lit dinner by the beach, where the sound of the waves is the only thing that competes with the food. And if you’re in need of total relaxation, the Anantara Spa offers treatments inspired by Thai traditions that leave you feeling like you’ve been pampered for hours.
With its starring role in 2025’s most talked-about series, Thailand is cementing itself as the destination of the year. And for those who prefer their travel experiences with a side of cinematic grandeur, there’s never been a better time to go. Ready to script your own White Lotus-worthy escape? We can make it happen.
