Sun Gardens Dubrovnik

Set just outside the city’s ancient stone walls, Sun Gardens Dubrovnik is a dream base for families who want the best of both worlds: easy access to the buzz of Dubrovnik, and a peaceful coastal retreat to come back to. This five-star resort is spacious, stylish and effortlessly family-friendly – and not in that token “we have a kids’ menu” kind of way. Think proper multi-bedroom residences with kitchens, shaded pools for little ones, and one of the best kids’ clubs on the Adriatic.

You’ve got three outdoor pools to dip between, a pebbly beach with crystal-clear water, and a sports centre that’ll keep teens and grown-ups alike entertained – tennis, squash, football, even a climbing wall. The award-winning spa is a proper highlight too (perfect for when one parent nips off for some solo downtime).

Dining here is refreshingly low-stress – relaxed waterfront restaurants with Croatian seafood and pizza that passes the picky-eater test. And when you’re ready to explore, the hotel’s private boat transfer whisks you straight into Dubrovnik’s Old Town in under 30 minutes – ideal for a little sightseeing without dragging everyone through the midday heat.

This is one of those rare finds that really does tick every box for a family holiday – plenty of space, no pressure, loads to do, and close enough to the action without being in the thick of it. It’s polished without feeling precious.

Location

Sun Gardens Dubrovnik, Croatia

Sun Gardens sits about 30 minutes north of Dubrovnik’s Old Town – close enough to dip in and out of the city, but far enough to feel like you’re properly switched off. The resort is tucked into the coastline in the village of Orašac, surrounded by olive groves and sea views that stretch right across to the Elaphiti Islands. Dubrovnik Airport is around 45 minutes away by car, and transfers are easy to arrange – whether it’s a private car or something a little more scenic. We can also sort boat transfers straight into the city, which is a fun (and totally stress-free) way to arrive if you're travelling with kids.

Whether you’re after a simple room with a sea view or a full-on family setup, Sun Gardens Dubrovnik has options that feel more like a home-from-home than your standard hotel stay. Rooms and suites are fresh and contemporary, with calming coastal tones, modern bathrooms, and balconies made for sunset unwinds.

But it’s the residences that really shine for families. These one, two or three-bedroom apartments come with fully equipped kitchens, living areas, and private terraces – perfect for a little self-catering flexibility (or simply having snacks and breakfast on standby for hungry little people). Daily housekeeping is included, so you still get the perks of hotel living without the hassle.

The residences are a game-changer if you’re travelling with kids – loads of space, proper beds (no sofa bed squeeze), and the freedom to keep things easy on your own schedule. Ideal for longer stays or multigenerational escapes too.
