Eagles Nest

Eagles Nest isn’t your typical resort — this is a curated collection of just five spectacular, standalone villas scattered across a private 75-acre headland overlooking New Zealand’s sublime Bay of Islands. Designed for those who want complete privacy without sacrificing luxury, each villa is more like its own mini resort, with jaw-dropping ocean views, heated infinity pools, fully equipped gourmet kitchens, and vast open-plan living spaces.

It’s the kind of place where everything comes to you. In-villa massages, personal trainers, private yoga sessions, tailored wine tastings, multi-course dinners cooked by your own chef — all arranged with a quiet, intuitive kind of service. Need a last-minute boat charter? A foraging tour with a local guide? A sunset heli-flight? Just say the word.

Every stay includes Champagne on arrival, daily gourmet breakfast provisions, and pre-dinner canapés — but the real luxury here is how tailored everything feels. You might start your morning with a private HIIT session, follow it with a spa treatment and lunch on your terrace, and end the day with a firepit-lit dinner under the stars.

And when you’re ready to explore beyond the villa? The Bay of Islands is a natural playground. Go deep-sea fishing, dive the Rainbow Warrior wreck, take a guided kayak tour through mangrove forests, or charter a yacht to explore the region’s 140+ islands. There are also excellent golf courses, art galleries, and wineries close by — plus the historic town of Russell, just five minutes away.

Location

Eagles Nest, Bay of Islands

Eagles Nest is tucked into a private peninsula just outside Russell, a charming heritage town in New Zealand’s subtropical Bay of Islands region. You can fly into Kerikeri (just under an hour’s drive away), or arrive by private helicopter directly to the property’s helipad — both options offer jaw-dropping views of forested headlands and turquoise sea. Once here, you're surrounded by native bush and birdsong, with direct access to secluded beaches and walking trails. The area is steeped in Māori and colonial history, with plenty of low-key dining and art galleries in town if you feel like venturing out.

Your

accommodation

There are just five villas at Eagles Nest — each one different, each one unforgettable. Expect sweeping ocean views from private infinity pools, floor-to-ceiling windows that pull the outside in, and interiors filled with curated art, rich textures, and the softest linens. Fully equipped gourmet kitchens and expansive living spaces come as standard, but it’s the details that set each villa apart.

First Light Temple is the most romantic of the five, a dreamy glass-roofed retreat made for two. At the other end of the spectrum is Rahimoana, the showstopper — a 1000-square-metre modernist escape with its own 25-metre pool, Porsche Cayenne, and a team that includes a private chef and butler. Sacred Space and Eagle Spirit are ideal for families or small groups, offering multiple bedrooms, generous terraces, and complete seclusion.

Your stay includes daily gourmet breakfast provisions, pre-dinner canapés, and a bottle of Champagne on arrival — but it’s the in-villa dining with a private chef that really elevates the experience.

Yes, children are welcome and some villas are absolutely ideal for families. Cots, high chairs and babysitting can be arranged.

Absolutely. The larger villas are perfect for milestone celebrations, family trips or group retreats, and the team can help plan everything from wine tastings to yacht charters.

November to April is the sunniest and warmest, perfect for beach time and boating. That said, the Northland climate is mild year-round — and the villas are equally magical in winter with the fire going and a glass of red.

Bay of Many Coves

Hidden deep in the Marlborough Sounds—only accessible by boat or helicopter—Bay of Many Coves is the kind of place you come to truly disappear. No roads. No rush. Just a scattering of architecturally pared-back apartments tucked into native bushland, with every room angled towards the water.

The Lindis

Tucked into a glacial valley in New Zealand’s South Island, The Lindis is one of the most architecturally striking stays in the country. It’s sleek, remote, and quietly extraordinary — built to blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape of the Ahuriri Valley, where tussock-covered hills roll into alpine peaks. From above, the building is barely visible; from inside, it’s pure drama — floor-to-ceiling glass, raw timber, and wide, open skies.
