Mount Mulligan Lodge

Set on a 28,000-hectare heritage site in Far North Queensland, this all-inclusive luxury lodge sits in the shadow of its namesake mountain: an ancient sandstone escarpment that towers above eucalyptus forest, golden savannah, and sacred Indigenous sites. But what really sets Mount Mulligan Lodge apart is its stillness. You come here to breathe slower, to reconnect, and to experience the outback in a way that’s entirely unfiltered – with a touch of indulgence thrown in, of course.

The lodge is part of Northern Escape Collection, known for its off-grid destinations that deliver unforgettable immersion without compromising on comfort. From the moment you’re collected in Cairns by helicopter (yes, that’s included), you’re in another world – one where wildlife wanders freely, the sunrises are unforgettable, and everything from dining to day trips is curated just for you.

This is the kind of place where days begin with fresh coffee on your private deck and end with open-air stargazing beside a flickering firepit. In between? Guided ATV tours through the old goldfields, barramundi fishing at the weir, paddleboarding on the dam, or simply cooling off in the infinity pool overlooking that ever-changing mountain silhouette. Mount Mulligan Lodge is a soulful escape best suited to couples, honeymooners, and quietly adventurous travellers looking to disconnect from the everyday and reconnect with nature. This is Australia, stripped back and dialled up at the same time – all told through vast landscapes, local stories, and thoughtful moments that linger long after you’ve left.

Mount Mulligan Lodge, Queensland

Mount Mulligan Lodge is located on a private 28,000-hectare property in Queensland’s outback, around 160 km north-west of Cairns. Your

accommodation

At Mount Mulligan Lodge, each of the retreats has been designed to reflect the surrounding landscape – not just in the materials and tones, but in the pace of life they encourage. With room for just 28 guests across a small collection of thoughtfully spaced accommodations, it feels as if the entire outback is yours.

The Outback Tent offers a more immersive connection to nature – canvas walls, timber floors, and creature comforts that bring charm and warmth to a wild setting. Ideal for couples seeking something a little more adventurous, it still comes with all the lodge’s indulgent inclusions, from gourmet meals to a curated in-room bar. Step up to the Outback Retreat or Outback Suite, and you’ll find a sense of laid-back luxury – spacious, air-conditioned interiors with king-sized beds, deep freestanding tubs, and private decks that open straight onto the eucalyptus-lined weir. The Outback Room, connected to the suite, offers additional sleeping space for families travelling together.

For those wanting more room to spread out – or travelling as a family or small group – the Outback Pavilion is the one to book. With two bedrooms, two outdoor stone bathtubs, and panoramic views of the escarpment, it strikes the perfect balance between privacy and togetherness. Whether you’re here as a couple seeking calm, a family craving space to explore, or friends marking a special trip, the lodge offers something beautifully fitting.

Every stay includes seasonal, chef-designed menus, a premium selection of wines and spirits, daily outback experiences, and full use of paddleboards, electric buggies, and fishing gear – but it never feels structured. You wake to the sounds of the bush, ease into the day at your own pace, and let nature take the lead.

Questions

Yes – rates include all gourmet meals, beverages (including wines and spirits), daily experiences, and use of lodge equipment (like paddleboards, ATVs, and fishing gear).

Children aged two and up are welcome, but the lodge is best suited to older children and teens who can fully enjoy the activities. The Outback Pavilion works well for families.

Very much so. The stillness, privacy and spectacular scenery make it a romantic, off-the-radar choice. With just a handful of guests on site and sunset drinks served in new secret locations each evening, it’s ideal for couples wanting to unwind and reconnect.

A minimum of two nights applies, but we strongly recommend three or four nights to really experience the rhythm of the place – especially if you’re arriving by helicopter and want time to enjoy the inclusions without rushing.
