El Questro

In the heart of The Kimberley’s vast wilderness, El Questro is one of Australia’s most extraordinary outback escapes — a million-acre property that blends dramatic landscapes, remote adventure, and four unique styles of stay. From barefoot luxury at El Questro Homestead to the rustic charm of Emma Gorge, the riverside privacy of The Station, and the self-drive seclusion of Black Cockatoo camping ground , this is a place that offers something for every type of traveller — as long as you’re ready to go off-grid in style.

El Questro is all about connection — to the land, to the people, and to a slower rhythm. Days here revolve around the wild beauty of the Kimberley: think sunrise swims at Zebedee Springs, boat rides down the Chamberlain River, guided gorge hikes, ancient Aboriginal rock art, and helicopter flights over waterfalls that tumble into deep, untouched valleys. Then, it’s back to your chosen base — whether that’s a clifftop suite with Champagne on ice, a riverside cabin with your own firepit, or a glamping tent tucked beneath the boabs.

This is Australia at its most elemental, but El Questro makes it accessible, elevated, and deeply personal. Whether you’re planning a luxury lodge itinerary or a self-drive Kimberley loop, this is the place that lingers.

Location

El Questro, East Kimberley

El Questro is located in the remote East Kimberley region of Western Australia, around 90 minutes from Kununurra, which is accessible by air from Darwin, Broome, or Perth. From there, transfers or scenic heli-flights can bring you into the property — though many also arrive as part of a self-drive route along the Gibb River Road. Despite its scale and isolation, once you’re here, everything runs like clockwork — and every adventure begins just outside your door.

Your

accommodation

El Questro offers a stay for every kind of traveller, from indulgent escapes to back-to-nature simplicity — all set within one of the most extraordinary landscapes in Australia. At the top end, El Questro Homestead delivers a luxury adults-only lodge experience like no other, with just nine suites perched above the Chamberlain River. Here, cliffside bathtubs, private dining spots and curated daily adventures create an atmosphere of quiet exclusivity, ideal for couples and special occasions.

Closer to the action, The Station sits on the banks of the Pentecost River and serves as the social heart of the property — with a mix of comfortable bungalows and safari-style tents that suit families, couples and groups alike. Over at Emma Gorge, you’ll find tented cabins with ensuite bathrooms tucked into the base of rugged cliffs — perfect for those who want to be immersed in nature but still enjoy a good night’s sleep and a hot shower after a day of hiking.

For the more self-sufficient traveller, private riverside campsites offer total seclusion and a front-row seat to the Kimberley’s wild beauty. These unpowered sites come with space, serenity, and the sense that you’re waking up in a part of Australia few ever get to see like this.
